Mary & her daughter Melissarose

Mary's Story

My name is Mary Cincinnato, and I have Crohn's Disease.

This is my story:

In 1980, when I was 16 years old, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. I’ve lived a lot of years in pain and discomfort. Through the many surgeries I have had over the years, I’ve learned to turn my pain into positivity.

While I was vacationing on a beach with my daughter Melissarose, it suddenly hit me; there are a lot of people in my life that are suffering with this illness. I knew I needed to help others, but I struggled with figuring out how.

My daughter, Melissarose, also has Crohn's Disease. Over the years I saw her struggle, the way I struggled with this disease. When I finally saw her happy and pain free for the first time in a long while, I thought to myself, “what can I do to keep that smile on her face?”

In 2013 I organized my first gala. I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew this was one way to help raise money for research. I am thankful to my family and friends who believed in me and believed in my dream to support the research with the brilliant minds who are finding a cure for Crohn's and Colitis.

I didn't know where I wanted to take "Our Wings to Fight", or how big it was going to grow. However, I am extremely grateful for the growth we have had. Without the support, knowledge and hard work of our committee members, we wouldn't be where we are today - there's no way I would be able to do this alone.

Thank you for joining us on our journey.

Your financial support, time and dedication means the world to me!

I truly hope that one day we will find a cure!

Thank you.

Mary
